Blue Monday typifies how a lot of us feel about January. Payday seems an eternity away, the weather outside is more often than not frightful and the revels of Christmas and New Year seem to have come and gone within an instant. A lot of people need something to really pep them up just a few weeks into the New Year, otherwise, they risk falling back into the same old dull routine.
However, as easy as it is to say this, it’s much harder to actually do it. But fear not, as we’re here to help. Our Simply Gym Spotify playlist is perfect for giving you the get-up-and-go that you need to seize the day and really make the most of what you are doing – but we especially recommend it for when you really want to pump it out and maximise the effort in your workout. You can listen to the playlist here:
But in the meantime, we’ve selected five of our favourite tracks for you to enjoy:
Happy – Pharrell Williams
Although it seems cliché, upbeat and peppy music can help to put a smile on your face, even when you are pushing yourself to the maximum. Happy is an example of this – frenetic, high-paced and irritatingly catchy, you’ll find yourself humming along to it days after you last listen to it. The title is apt: happy by name and happy by nature.
Shake It Off – Taylor Swift
We love Taylor Swift’s song ‘Shake it off’, helping you to push through those final reps and ultimately be able to shake off all your stresses, worries or anxieties from the day. A real powerhouse, this track is all about being yourself and not letting anyone else get to you and you can bring this into daily life as well as your workouts with ease. After all, the haters are going to hate whatever you do, so you might as well enjoy yourself.
Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough – Michael Jackson
We couldn’t do a playlist without featuring the ‘King of Pop’ and MJ is without a doubt a worthy inclusion on our list. A real doozy of music, this track is perfect for when you need to push yourself that little bit further in order to succeed, but the lighter touches remind you that it’s important to remember you will feel the benefits in the longer term.
I Feel It Coming – The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk
A little bit slower, but equally as powerful, this track can help you build up towards your big finish. With a sensual, relaxed and reliant steady beat, you can use the rhythm of this to help gradually work yourselves into a sweat, whether it is putting an extra notch on the treadmill speed, or gradually easing the weights up.
Wake Me Up – Avicii
The tragic death of Avicii due to a long-standing condition was a dark spot for many music fans in 2018. This modern classic is awe-inspiring and reminds us to always keep a strong perspective on life. It isn’t afraid to admit that growth is something that can happen to us at every time and the gentle start quickly morphs into a punchy, reliable beat to really help you work up a sweat. A genius taken before his time, it’s a testament to the quality of his music that it is still so widespread even a year after his passing.
So don’t be afraid to #simplysoundblue this January and embrace the New Year, rather than being apprehensive about it. And if you haven’t signed up to us yet, then why not join Simply Gym?
