Top Tips For Mums To Stay Fit During the Summer Holidays

With the summer holidays upon us, we know it’s hard to make sure that your usual gym routine doesn’t become a distant memory. Whether you are having days out with the kids, holidays abroad or staying at home with the family; there are many ways in which you can remain active and not go off-track when it comes to reaching your fitness goals. Making time for yourself and your gym sessions is crucial, however, if you have no choice but to change your schedule, there are many ways to keep up your fitness levels so that you don’t regress in your training.

Here are Simply’s Top 5 Tips for staying fit during the summer holidays:

1) Living room lifting!

Whether you are at home or in a hotel room abroad, there are workouts you can do which often require limited or even no equipment. The benefits of body-weight training should not be underestimated! 2) Make your family plans fun and active!

Family games can be active and encourage both parents and children to get moving without even acknowledging that it’s exercise. Whether it’s a game of rounders in the park, a walk along the river or a swim in the sea on holiday, try and plan activities that involve full body movement and a slight raise in heart rate.

3) Make the most of the sunshine (when the British sunshine decides to make an appearance..)

Struggling for childcare and can’t make your usual morning indoor cycling slot? With the Tour De France upon us and the British sunshine hopefully gracing us with its presence, it’s the perfect time to go out on a family bike ride. Did you know that steady cycling burns about 1,200 kj (about 300 calories) per hour? British research also shows that a half an hour bike ride everyday will burn nearly five kg of fat over a year. Before you know it, you’ll be back to your usual indoor cycling class and Simply smashing it because of all those extra miles!

4) If in doubt, dance it out!

Love Zumba? Why not practice some of your dance fitness moves at home with your little ones? Make household chores more fun by dancing your way across the kitchen or hoovering to the beat of the music. Before you know it, you’ll have a team of helpers, the house will be tidy and your salsa steps will be perfected ready for your next Zumba class.

5) Hire a personal trainer to keep you motivated and accountable.
